About Topeka Electricians

Despite the name, this is not an electrical company. Topeka Electricians is a free quote-referral service, not an electrician or electrical contractor. It holds no electrical license and does not perform electrical work. It helps homeowners, landlords and renters in Topeka, KS and nearby towns describe an electrical problem once, so independent, licensed local electrical contractors can reply with quotes.

What this service does

A breaker that will not stay on, a bedroom with dead outlets, a service mast bent by a June storm: most people do not want to call five companies and explain the problem five times. This site shortens that step.

Fill in the quote form or call the local 785 number. Your request goes to independent electrical contractors who serve your part of Topeka or the nearby towns. They contact you directly to ask questions, set up a visit and quote the job. Asking is free, and you never have to hire anyone.

  • Free, no-obligation quote requests
  • Independent contractors who reply on their own schedules
  • Plain guides to Kansas licensing, City of Topeka permits, Evergy and typical costs
  • A local 785 phone number

What this service is not

Not an electrician. Topeka Electricians is a free quote-referral service, not an electrician or electrical contractor. It holds no electrical license and does not perform electrical work. It does not plan, supervise, inspect or warranty any electrical work, and it is not affiliated with any electrical company or with Evergy. The word "Electricians" in the name describes who you are put in touch with, not work the site does.

Every repair, upgrade, permit and inspection is handled and priced by the independent contractor you choose. Those contractors are separate businesses, not employees or agents of this site. The site does not rank or endorse them, and it cannot promise that any one of them is licensed or insured, so check both before work starts.

How the service is paid for

You pay nothing to use it. Independent contractors may pay to receive quote requests or phone calls. That is how a referral service stays free for homeowners. It does not mean a contractor has been vetted by this site, and it does not change what you should ask before you hire.

How phone calls work

Calls to (785) 261-2213 go through a call-routing provider to an independent electrical contractor that serves the Topeka area. The person who answers works for that contractor, not for this site. Ask for the business name and its City of Topeka license on the call, and check both before anyone comes out.

Before you hire anyone

  • Kansas has no statewide electrician license; cities and counties license electricians (K.S.A. 12-1525). In Topeka, ask for the contractor's City of Topeka license and confirm it with Development Services (785-368-3905); the city also posts a licensed-contractor list.
  • In Lawrence, check with Lawrence Building Safety (785-832-7700). Outside city limits in Shawnee County, Land Use & Development (785-251-5410) handles permits.
  • Ask for certificates of liability insurance and workers' compensation. Topeka asks contractors for both when they apply for a license.
  • Get a written, itemized quote. Ask up front about any trip or diagnostic fee and after-hours rates, who pulls the permit, and whether Evergy coordination is included.

The guide Do Electricians Need a License in Kansas? explains how local licensing works, and why a local electrician matters lists questions for the first call. For typical price ranges, see the Topeka electrician cost guide.

Where the service works

Topeka, Kansas is the hub, from Potwin, College Hill and Historic Holliday Park to Westboro, Sherwood and the newer homes of southwest Topeka. Requests are also welcome from Lawrence, Silver Lake, Auburn, Tecumseh & Berryton, Rossville and Meriden, plus Holton, Manhattan, Osage City, Wakarusa and Carbondale. The service areas page has details.

For electrical contractors

Licensed electrical contractors who serve Topeka or nearby towns and want to receive quote requests can say so through the quote form. Choose "Other" and include your business name, the city license you hold and the towns you cover.

How this site handles information

  • Sources named. Prices come from published national cost guides and the City of Topeka fee schedule, dated and labeled as estimates. Weather and housing facts name their source, such as the National Weather Service, NOAA normals or the Census ACS.
  • Rules, not legal advice. Licensing, permit and landlord sections are general information. Confirm anything important with Development Services, your town hall or a Kansas attorney.
  • Honest images. Images on this site are illustrations, not photos of any contractor's work.
